Not so good at giving up the scale

So I totally failed at giving up on the scale... I couldn't take it.. I had to know.

So I lost almost 2 pounds. Which is great... but I still want to try this scale free living for a while. So I am trying again. I am going a month without a weigh -in but I am going to take Kim's advice and keep track of more of my body measurements, mainly my arms, bust and thighs (in addition to the waist measurement)

Also I realized this morning that I haven't posted a pic of my progress in a long time. I have a long way to go still obviously. But when I look back at that very first picture, I can tell a difference.

Progress Report

I know I haven't blogged in a bit. I have been a little discouraged lately. The numbers on the scale just aren't going down the way i'd like them to.  I continue to feel better, look thinner and lose a little bit in my waist measurements. And even though those things are great, and better than my starting point it is disheartening. Two weeks ago I gained a half of a pound.. which is not that much of a gain, I know.. but it was still upsetting.

I have not let that disappointment stop me though. Slam-Slam has joined the gym and now we go to the gym together at least twice a week. I need to get back to classes, because I burn more calories in those.

I have decided to banish the scale for a little bit. I have been reading about other ways to measure success on SparkPeople!  Mainy the articles talk about how to stay motivated by things other than the number on the scale.

http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivation_articles.asp?id=1625

They mention waist measurements and wellness measurements as possible alternatives.  I have already been keeping track of my waist measurements, so I'll keep doing that.  I am not sure about the wellness measurements, they may be a little too subjective for me...I need something that I can ensure has some consistency. http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/wellness_articles.asp?id=1358

My new updates are going to be about my calories in and out, the differences in my waistline and (i'll make note of any size changes), once a month a scale update. I'll also give updates on my challenge and adventure updates.

I have not been doing my April daily challenges, the evenings have just been too busy to get out on the bike, I think I need to save that challenge for a month with more sunlight later in the evening.  The new daily challenge is going to have to do with sit ups! EEK!

Also, my adventure is getting moved to another month. I think April is going to be adventure free :(
But I am thinking about focusing my May adventures will be the 2 charity walks that I am doing, and June can be disc golf month. I do plan to try to go geocaching at least once before April is over.

This is all I have to report for the last 2 weeks or so. Next week I'll report on challenges, adventures, average daily calorie intake, my waist measurement and weekly calories burnt total! Then about Mid may we will get on the scale again and see how I did!

March Adventure: Geocaching!

I officially love geocaching! My friend Knitia suggested geocaching for my March adventure and I decided to take her suggestion. I am so glad that I did. It is like treasure hunting! I love it! Saturday I embarked on finding my first cache! I went to Sahm park where there was a cache "just off the trail." I found out that the compass app I installed on my phone was not accurate. I found a radar app that worked, unfortunately I didn't not figure this out before I took the LONG way around to get to the cache.  However, I suppose that going the long way around gave me a better work out.

Here is a demonstration of my path:

The Red Mark is the location of the Cache, where the blue dash line starts on the far right is
where I started, moving from right to left. You can see how I went the LONG way around!

I got a little cut up by thorns, and broke two nails trying to open the cache, but I still had so much fun.
After I got home I couldn't wait to find more caches. So I got online to see what other caches were around and found there was one in Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve, one of my very favorite places to hike. So I loaded Dude Monkey and we went to find the cache. We found this one very easily. It wasn't very far down the trail, which was not great for getting a good work out, but was ok, because it was FREEZING!  Here are some pictures of the caching! I really like this hobby and I think I am going to keep doing it in addition to my other challenges and adventures! Cloud Dancings Heartsong likes it too, so I think we are going to do it together.

Weekly Weigh In

I am very happy to report that I have lost another 1.2 pounds! That puts my total at 27lbs!! HOORAY!

I haven't checked my other stats recently, but I will next week!

So, I have been eating pretty well. I hadn't been tracking but i am getting back in the habit with that, and I am gearing up to increase my exercise. Slam-Slam is going to join the gym with me so that should increase the amount of time that i go! I am still planning to continue my Total body conditioning class and my zumba class each week!

I have also selected my upcoming challenges and adventures:

MARCH/APRIL CHALLENGES AND ADVENTURES

March Challenge: Only sit on my stability ball at home

March Adventure: TBD Geocaching!!

April Challenge: Take a bike ride with dude monkey everyday (except bad weather)

April Adventures: Learn to play Disc Golf

In addition to these things I am doing the 2011 Mutt Strut with Queen Bee and Cloud Dancings Heartsong, along with our pooches! http://www.indyhumane.org/index.php/news/register_for_mutt_strut_2011

that is all that is happening right now. I am also terribly behind in watching the joy fit club members getting inducted. that was my inspiration for this whole thing, along with my friend Punchy Brewser! So I'll get caught up on that and tell you what i learn!

Delinquent Blogger

I have been an incredible blog slacker! I have not been tracking my food, and I have not been blogging! I have still been exercising (I even exercised on my vacation!!) and I am happy to report that during this little blog hiatus I have NOT GAINED! I only lost .4 pounds... but that is better than gaining, especially given i spent a week in Hawaii, and while I exercised a few times I ate pretty much whatever i wanted!

I have a lot of updating to do, and I pormise to do it this weekend! In the mean time I desperately need ideas for daily challenges and adventures!

I have some ideas (dodgeball league for example) but there are timing issues with doing them right away! I'd love to squeeze in some adventure this month!

HELP!

Weigh In Update

I know I have been a terrible blogger this month. But I have lost weight. I lost the two pounds that I gained plus one more. so i have finally reached my 25 pound goal!!!! HOORAY!  Now I get my prize, a date night of my choosing. My husband and I are about to go on a special vacation, and I think that will be a perfect opportunity to have that date.

I also have some other important number updates:

I lost 0.4% body fat !
I also lost ONE inch of my waist!

and since the beginning of this journey I have decreased my BMI by 3.9 points!

I am so happy that I am still making progress. I am really committed to making more.  It has taken me longer than I expected to get this far and I am really hoping I can start to make more consistent  progress!

While on our trip I hope to be able to incorporate some really fun and different kinds of exercise!

I'll post more on that next time!

Weekly Weigh In and update

I know I am a really bad blogger. I should have weighed in last week but I was too depressed. Last week I GAINED TWO POUNDS! I so thought I was over that yo-yo hump. but apparently NOT. There is a little good news, I lost 1 pound this week. So I am only one pound up from two weeks ago.

I would love to say that I don't know how this happened... but I do. Last week the weather was terrible and everything was closed. I didn't work out as much as i normally do. To my credit I did work out ONCE, i burnt 246 calories. But i should have worked out more to make up for the good cardio workouts that i usually get. ALSO, instead of eating really healthy. I ate like TOTAL crap! I was like on calorie holiday or something.

I got back on track last weekend and I lost one of those pounds that I gained. I am doing the stair challenge again this month since i didn't do it at all, not sure what my adventure is going to be yet.

I hope I can buckle down and start getting this weight OFF!!!!
